Jump-Serve Overhead Medicine Ball Throw I–IV For Tennis | 7.105–7.108

Book family 7.105–7.108 from Advanced Concepts of Strength & Conditioning for Tennis. Select the support, timing and return conditions for the intended progression.

Video References

The studio clip shows the forward-gaze throw and leading-foot contact in the destination ring. It does not show a tennis court, the diagonal service-box target, or the held single-leg finish required in III–IV. Follow the selected progression’s gaze instruction and establish the stated finish before resetting.

II: Studio Jump-And-Throw Reference

Setup And Execution

Place two rings under the feet in the service stance and a third about one foot inside the baseline, aligned with the leading foot. Hold the medicine ball behind the head with both hands. Bend the knees, drive upward and into the court from both legs, and release overhead toward the diagonal service box near the highest point of the jump. The jump needs a horizontal component; jumping straight up leaves the athlete behind the intended landing position. Finish with the leading foot in the third ring.

In 7.105, look down at the landing. Version 7.106 uses forward gaze during the movement and landing. Versions 7.107–7.108 add a held single-leg finish: keep the leading foot planted and establish balance before resetting. III looks forward during the movement and down at the landing; IV keeps the gaze forward throughout. A leading-foot contact alone does not establish the held landing required in these later stages.

Book Progressions

7.105 — Jump-Serve Overhead Mb Throw (I)

Perform the diagonal jump and overhead throw, then contact the landing ring with the leading foot while looking down toward the ground.

7.106 — Jump-Serve Overhead Mb Throw (Ii)

Use the same jump-and-throw route with forward gaze during movement and the leading-foot landing.

7.107 — Jump-Serve Oh Mb Throw (Iii): Sl Landing

Perform the jump and overhead throw with forward gaze during movement, then look down at the ground landing and control the finish on the leading foot alone.

7.108 — Jump-Serve Oh Mb Throw (Iv): Sl Landing

Repeat the held single-leg landing version with forward gaze during both movement and landing.

Choose The Load And Progression

Choose ball mass and ring spacing that permit a controlled upward-and-forward throw and the selected landing. Rehearse the throw and finish at manageable effort before adding the held single-leg task.

Historical equipment ranges in the original book are not starting-load prescriptions. Establish the movement and support position before increasing load or return frequency. Do not change support difficulty and load together simply to reach a higher numbered level.
