How To Perform The Exercise
Begin from the floor with a controlled first pull. Extend the hips explosively after the bar passes the knees, keep it close and move underneath as the elbows turn forward into the front rack. Receive with controlled knee and hip flexion, the bar supported across the front of the shoulders, then stand.
Technique Cue
Turn the elbows forward promptly and support the bar on the shoulders; do not catch the load in the hands or with rigid knees.
Book Technique And Progression
Book difficulty: 3 (the book’s exercise rating). Choose a load suited to your experience and master the component movements first.
Establish the floor pull and front-rack position separately before connecting them. Keep the load light enough to repeat the turnover and receiving position with control.
Related exercises: high pull floor and front squat. Read the tennis conditioning book for the complete progression, and explore tennis workouts to combine movements.
For a combined sequence, watch the floor clean, front squat and overhead press demonstration. It combines the movements rather than isolating the high receive.
