Exercise Video

The video shows rotation between the two sides with the feet elevated. Use the floor-contact criterion in the written instructions below.

Russian Twist with the feet elevated and the plate beside the hip
Russian Twist: elevated feet and controlled rotation toward the hip.

How To Perform The Exercise

Sit on a mat with the knees bent, chest lifted and feet hovering above the floor. Hold a plate or medicine ball with both hands. Rotate the trunk left and touch the resistance to the floor beside the left hip, then rotate right and touch it to the floor beside the right hip. Retain control at each contact.

Technique Cue

Keep the feet elevated, head neutral and chest open. Rotate under control without rounding the upper back. If floor contact requires loss of position, reduce the load or range and record the adjusted task.

Book Technique And Progression

Book difficulty: 1 (the book’s exercise rating). Check the prerequisites and use loading suited to your technique and training history.

Sit upright with knees bent and feet raised; rotate a plate or medicine ball between floor contacts beside the hips. A shorter range is an adjusted task. Avoid rounding the upper back or setting the feet down.
