Second Edition · Chapter 3 Assessment · Original Test 4.13
Assesses upper-body power generation in a rotational medicine-ball throw.
Test Demonstration
Watch the movement, then follow the book’s full procedure and measurement instructions for a formal assessment.
Equipment
6 lb (2.72 kg) medicine ball, tape measure and stopwatch.
Test Procedure
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent and shoulders perpendicular to the baseline. Hold the ball in both hands with arms straight. Rotate the trunk away from the net, then forcefully rotate back and throw toward the net for maximum distance.
Result And Scoring
Retain the ball mass, throwing side, starting position, scored-attempt count and scoring rule. Allow 90 seconds recovery between assessed throws. The source does not define a scored-attempt count or a best-versus-mean rule; establish both before comparing sessions.
Measure distance from the baseline to first ground contact and time from release to contact. The studio demonstration cannot supply those measurements.
Video Demonstration Note
The video shows the rotational throw but does not show a tennis baseline, net, landing point or timed measurement.
Training Connections
The book lists Forward Lunge & Ankle Reach and MB Diagonal Chops as pre-test preparation. Return to the assessment overview for related demonstrations.
