Starting Position
Stand sideways with one foot in the first square and the other foot in the next square. Look toward the feet.
How To Perform The Exercise
Move the trailing foot in front of the other leg into the next square, then advance the other foot. Continue the anterior crossing rhythm while keeping the hips facing generally forward.
Book Setup And Video Note
The clip shows variation I in both travel directions: front-crossing and opening steps, without a racquet and with downward gaze. The written II–IV progressions add racquet use and visual tasks while retaining that route.
Equipment: Speed ladder
Book Difficulty Level: 1 — Introductory
Book Family: 7.38–7.41
7.38 I: begin with the left foot in square 1 and right foot in square 2. Travel right by crossing the left foot in front into 3, then opening with the right into 4. Continue cross–open with one contact per square. Reset at the end and mirror the sequence for leftward travel. Use no racquet and look toward the feet.
7.39 II: add a racquet held in both hands and retain downward gaze. 7.40 III: retain the racquet and contact order while looking forward. 7.41 IV: retain the route and racquet while visually tracking the coach. Practise both directions.
Increase cadence only while the selected contact order is repeatable. The base or excerpt video supports the shared movement; later gaze, tracking and ball-feed requirements are specified in writing.
