Inside-Out Fast Feet II (Modified Demonstration) For Tennis

A modified demonstration related to exercise 7.35 in the Stride Length & Frequency section of Chapter 7 of Advanced Concepts of Strength & Conditioning for Tennis. The clip adds a ring target and simulated forehand and exits before the final ladder square.

Technique Photos

These photos show the modified racquet-and-ring demonstration. The ring exit and simulated forehand are additions to the book’s Inside-Out Fast Feet II pattern.

Starting Position

Stand sideways at the ladder holding a racquet in the ready position.

How To Perform The Exercise

In the modified demonstration, move laterally through the ladder, cross the trailing foot behind, then step diagonally out toward the ring and perform a simulated forehand. The filmed exit occurs before the final square; the book sequence below uses the final square.

Book Setup And Video Note

Modified demonstration of the 7.35 footwork progression: the video adds agility rings and a simulated swing, which the book’s 7.35 ladder description does not require. The filmed diagonal exit occurs before the last square of the full ladder shown, so this clip does not verify the prescribed terminal-square exit. It does not show a fed ball and must not be presented as the integrated ball-fed 7.63 exercise.

Equipment: Speed ladder and racquet; the video also uses agility rings
Book Difficulty Level: 2 — Intermediate

Book Family: 7.34–7.37

7.34 Inside-Out Fast Feet I

Complete the lateral two-contact pattern without a racquet, looking toward the feet. At the final square, cross the trailing foot behind the leading leg into that square. Push off the trailing foot and land diagonally forward on the leading foot. Mirror the sequence for the other travel direction. Keep the rear crossover at the exit rather than adding it to every square.

7.35 Inside-Out Fast Feet II

Retain the route, terminal crossover and downward gaze while holding a racquet in both hands in the ready position.

7.36 Inside-Out Fast Feet III

Keep the racquet and exit sequence while looking forward.

7.37 Inside-Out Fast Feet IV

Retain the route and racquet use while visually tracking the coach. The prescribed endpoint is the diagonal landing. A swing, coach-fed ball or ring target is not required in this family; the current video’s swing and rings are additions.

Increase cadence only while the selected contact order remains repeatable. Reduce speed when the racquet or visual task causes missed squares. The embedded base or modified demonstration supports the shared footwork; the later visual tasks are specified in writing.
